some extra info about the pdf giveaway

a couple things i forgot to mention, and a couple things i didn’t even think about until they came up (see the previous post if you don’t know what i’m talking about)… the cover picture was from that photo above of pete and his friend nick in san francisco, and the alpaca applique came from this photo taken at black sheep:

if you are outside the states, and you voted in your country’s most recent election, i will definitely send you the pdf!  this giveaway is about getting people to vote here in this election, but it’s also about just getting people excited about voting in general, and i want to include everyone who wants to be included.

and on that note – if you are under 18… i want to include you too if you want to participate, so the only thing i can come up with is this: i’ll send it to you if you can tell me something you’ve done (an article you read, a conversation you had with a voter) to show that you’ve thought about this election.  if you are paying attention to what’s going on now, without the legal opportunity to vote, then you’ll probably be really into voting when you’re able to… so this makes sense to me, in the spirit of the whole thing.

and, i realize that tons of people have no proof that they voted.  just tell me you voted and i’ll believe you, don’t worry.  i hope the readers of my blog are honest, i think you all are!

the hat pattern is up on ravelry now, and i’ll repeat here what i said there: i am planning on reworking the pattern a little and releasing it for sale in the future – so the “yay, you voted!” pdf is your only chance to get it free!!

i’ll be heading downtown to this event at the museum of contemporary craft in a little while, so i’ll be catching up on sending pdfs when i get back from there, just so you know when you can expect it.  i hope to keep caught up throughout the afternoon/evening while listening to npr, but if i get really overwhelmed with voter comments/emails, it may take me a couple days to get them all sent.

lastly, thank you to everyone who passed along the link on your blogs – i’m getting so much response! it’s awesome!!  yay!!!!

    Hey, You know this is a forever thing... Not only did I vote, but I worked long and hard for the Campaign for Change, in addition to being a poll watcher. And I am so glad that so many people voted! in this election. If you can, send me the PDF, if not, it is okay. And thanks for your part in getting people out to vote!
  • Um hello. I just found a link that led me here for a fabulous hat pattern that I love. (the link was from ravelry)
    I did vote on Nov. 4th for the US presidential election. My sticker has long since disappeared.
    Can I still get the pdf for the pattern? PLEASE!!!!

    Hope I'm not too late for the hat pattern.

    I voted - in Canada, as you can see from my e-address. Not only did I vote - I had to vote early because I worked for Elections Canada both previous to the election and on the actual day itself.
    We don't get anything to say that we have voted, but the work I did before the election encouraged some people to vote.
    Prior to the election, voters get a chance to phone in to say their name is spelled wrong, their address have changed and/or to ask where they can go to vote, etc. And I was the person on the other end of the phone!

  • thanks so much for doing this-- i can't tell you how inspiring and exciting it was to vote yesterday morning. it was electric...the tension and excitement was just palpable and present. it was amazing. never did i think that this would actually happen and i'm just so relieved to know that finally we have someone on our side in the government. even my international friends are happy for us! i just hope we can all unite together behind our new leader, especially since he'll need all the help he can get. thanks again and love reading your blog. :o) ek.
  • Oh and my proof...lol my parents made a big deal out of the election cause it's a super historic one, and they took my sis and I to vote with them, took us to breakfast, and then my mom took my sis, her friend and me to the Susan B. Anthony house (she fought hard for women's voting rights with her younger sister Mary their whole lives). It's so cool that both her and Fredrick Douglass lived within half an hour of my house, and the tour really made me appreciate the fact that someday I'll get to cast my vote for president too :)

    I did vote in the last Region/local election three years ago here in Denmark, and in the Senate/national (or what to call it - prime minister and all that) election in Norway the same year. I have a Norwegian citizenship but live in Denmark, studying, and that how it works. You get to vote in the local election where you live, and in the national election where you're from.

    For the Norwegian senate election we got to vote at the Embassy :) An interesting experience... Tough it was a bit strange that we had to figure it out for ourselves, we didn't get a letter or anything telling us how, where and when...
  • Dude, honestly I was jealous of all the voters who get "I voted" stickers. Thank you for giving me something more awesomer than a sticker.

    I was so ... I had to make myself wait until the end to let myself believe the earlier polls - after heartbreak and disbelief at the bull#$# last two elections, I couldn't let myself get joyful too early.

    SO THANK YOU! I think a few folks are gonna get alpaca related presents for winter holiday season!

  • Love your "Yay-I-voted" promo!

    I am unfortunately not eligible to vote in the U.S., but I most definitely did vote up here in the great white north. I say "unfortunately" because quite frankly our election was nothing more than a failed attempt at a power grab by the governing federal party who came out of it holding a minority of seats in our House of Commons but we have this crazy first-past-the-post system, so 38% can actually form the government, and which, to add insult to injury, cost the Canadian taxpayers close to $300 million! I say "unfortunately because though I am a firm believer in the ideals of democracy, the structure of the electoral process in my country does not result in proportional representation and we are very much in need of electoral reform.

    And I say "unfortunately" because I firmly believe that this year especially the election in your country will have a greater impact than our own election on the lives and well-being of my nation as well as yours and much of the world and I fervently wish I could cast a ballot and have a say in an important decision that will affect us all for years to come. I pray that voters in the U.S. have learned something from the last eight years and choose a more enlightened direction for the future.

    P.S. and I might be somewhat consoled by a nice warm hat and some mac and cheese... ;)
